From the perspective of Soon Din, a Chinese infant who died at Angel Island Immigration Station in 1924, Where the Sea Stands Still follows his wandering spirit on a tactile, posthumous voyage of homecoming. Traversing continents and eras, the film enters a world inhabited by the roaming ghosts of Chinese immigrants, revisiting histories of death and displacement and tracing how migration, diaspora, racism, and language intertwine to shape identity and the meaning of home.
